Intra Oral Cameras Coming to Market

The idea of a tiny intra oral camera that can take 3D pictures of teeth has been around for several years. However, it now appears many companies are prepared to launch this type of product. 3D intra oral cameras have the potential to make your visit to your dentist a much more pleasant one because it would eliminate the need for molding putty used today. That material can gag the patient as orthodontist take impressions of teath in preparation for braces, or dentist take impressions for crowns.

Intra oral cameras would produce a 3D image that could be instantly sent to a CAD/CAM system to fabricate a perfect match for a crown for example. This is an exciting development. Several companies showing technology at this year’s CES show in Las Vegas makes this all the more real.
